Professional Profile

David Manchester is Associate Director of Impact Assessment & Learning at The Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Greater Boston's Jewish Federation. He is working to build a culture of data informed decision making by supporting program staff to think through strategy and document desired outcomes and to expand internal evaluation capacity.

Prior to joining CJP, David worked at the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies on community studies, program evaluations and assessments, and other quantitative research projects. He envisioned and oversaw the development of the American Jewish Population Project’s interactive map as a tool to share findings in an engaging and interactive way.

A Ph.D. candidate at Brandeis’ Heller School for Social Policy, David’s research interest lay at the intersection of Jewish sociological, demographic, and programmatic trends. His dissertation is focusing on loneliness and social isolation in Jewish young adults and exploring how engagement and social programs can reduce such feelings and experiences. David is a Wexner Graduate Fellow/Davidson Scholar (class 29) and a Berman Fellow in Jewish Socio-Demographic Studies.

David completed his Masters’ degrees in Public Policy and Jewish Professional Leadership as part of the Hornstein Program at Brandeis University and received his BA in International Affairs from American University’s School of International Service. David previously lived in Washington, DC where he began his career as a legislative assistant for Hadassah’s Washington Action Office and then became an operations analyst at Blackboard, Inc., where he honed his skills in quantitative metrics and evaluation. An active Hillel community member in college, David recently left the Board of Directors of American University Hillel following 12 years of service. Over the course of that time, he served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Board, as well as the chair of the student life and personnel committees. In this role, he has been instrumental in reinvigorating the organization.
